Teach Children to Save – Huntington Elementary

Virginia Sheffield & Lou Anne Cochran of the Huntington Branch presented a savings program to five classes of first grade students. They discussed ways to earn money and the importance of saving. The Story of Silly Sam stressed the importance of keeping savings in a safe place, the best place being the bank. Students learned the meaning of the word “interest” and that they earn that along with safety when they have a savings account. They were given word games, using words from the presentation, money pencils and stickers.

Teach Children to Save – Joaquin Elementary

Mary Cummings and Connie Walker of the Haslam Branch visited with 50 fifth graders at Joaquin Elementary and talked to them about “The Power of Saving” and “Banking on Their Future”. Mary and Connie shared with students the importance of budgeting at any age. Students were taught to divide their money into four groups: sharing, spending, short-term saving and long-term saving.

After the presentation each student was given the Money Talks handout and a gift from the bank.

No gift is too large or too small. Your donations will help a child in the Timpson area and can be dropped of at the Timpson Branch of Texas State Bank until December 20, 2011.

Texas State Bank Hosts Annual Soil & Water Conservation District Wildlife Contest

On October 26, 2011, Texas State Bank hosted the Annual Soil & Water Conservation District Wildlife Contest at Attoyac Farms in San Augustine county. FFA students from nine schools in Shelby, Sabine, San Augustine and Nacogdoches counties participated. Banners were presented to winners, a plaque presented to the high-point individual, and a meal was provided. The USDA-NRCS and the Shelby, Nacogdoches, and Pineywoods Soil & Water Conservation Districts would like to thank Texas State Bank, Center Brookshire Brothers, the Nacogdoches Coca-Cola Bottling Co., and the Walmart Foundation for their contributions and assistance in promoting conservation events for our high school students.

Texas State Bank sponsored the Logansport 2011 “Seniors Who Make a Difference” banquet at the Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches, Texas on April 4, 2011. After a delicious meal, Mark Ivey, President of Texas State Bank, recognized each chosen senior and presented them with a plaque. The students’ then introduced the teacher that had influenced them during their career as scholars at Logansport High School. Each teacher and parents were given an opportunity to speak on behalf of the students and other faculty members present. Ms Lillie Giles, Principal at Logansport High School, told several stories of the students and recognized other school staff members present.
